Walnut Dining Chair

One of a set of six dining chairs designed to complement a matching table. These chairs are made in American walnut and upholstered in fine Scottish leather. The design features an uncomplicated solid walnut frame which was designed to be strong, yet elegant. The frame is embellished with a well upholstered seat squab and back rest shaped to match the contours of the sitter’s back. The frame is finished in a high build up of Danish oil, enhancing the richness of the timber and providing a contrast against the leather upholstery.

Comfort

Whenever I design seating, whether a dining chair or garden bench, comfort is my main concern. This set of chairs was designed with this in mind, and features not only a well padded seat squab, but also an ergonomically designed back splat, curved to follow the contours of the diner. The seat squab is upholstered in three layers, first a thin layer of high density foam to prevent the diner sitting on the hard base board, this is followed by a soft layer of foam which provides comfort, and finally the two layers of foam are covered with a layer of wadding. This system allows the diner to sit comfortably for a long period, perfect for fine dining.

Detail

Although uncomplicated in design, these chairs feature a number of beautifully designed details which finish them to a high quality. The front legs protrude up through the leather giving another dimension to the seat, heavy chamfers on the front legs soften the chair and add interest. The shape of the back splat and the short lengths of dowel that secure it in place give these chairs a very contemporary look.
